Metronic Systems LLC has developed a laser-based measuring system specifically designed for blade inspection and airfoil metrology. The system, called the G2-E, uses fast and accurate non-contact laser-based technology to measure critical airfoil dimensions and parameters.
The G2-E’s laser is mounted on a rugged, high-accuracy motion system consisting of three linear and one rotary axis. Using flying-spot scanning, airfoil stations and surfaces are scanned at the rate of 5400 points per second. The Metronic G2-E combines blade inspection and regulatory reporting into one system. The extremely fast laser captures accurate measurements from complex airfoil surfaces and allows for easy and fast analysis of blade quality. The inspection data captured remains secure, and an FAA-ready report is automatically generated.

Unique Blade Analysis Software
The “Metronic Blade Analysis” software is fully integrated with the 3D scanning process so that after scanning is complete, the critical blade geometry characteristics are automatically evaluated and a report is generated without the need for user intervention.
The Metronic software uses high order polynomials to fit the leading and trailing edge data. Fitting the data is important especially along the trailing edge where the radius is tight and full scan coverage is difficult. In addition to accurate leading/trailing edge determination, the Metronic System measures the cord line distance, blade thickness, edge and face alignment, and blade angle at each measurement station.
